Rishi Manchanda, MD, MPH

CEO, HealthBegins

Dr. Rishi Manchanda is CEO at HealthBegins. He has advanced bold strategies to help health care move upstream and advance health equity for historically marginalized patients and communities throughout his career as physician, executive, and public health champion. Dr. Manchanda served as the founding director of social medicine for a network of community health centers in South-Central Los Angeles, as the first lead primary care physician for homeless veterans at the Greater Los Angeles VA, and as the inaugural chief medical officer for a self-insured employer with a large rural agricultural workforce. In his book—The Upstream Doctors—and TED Talk, he introduced “Upstreamists,” a new model of healthcare professionals who improve outcomes by addressing the social and structural drivers of health equity—patients’ social needs, community-level social determinants of health, and structural determinants of health equity including structural racism.

Glasha Marcon

VP, Learning & Innovation

Glasha Marcon is an Oakland-based strategist and builder who collaborates across sectors to measurably and equitably improve community health and resilience. Glasha has worked on the frontlines as a Community Health Navigator at an FQHC, built global population health products at Optum, supported startups and the innovation ecosystem in Minneapolis, guided Rally Health’s health equity strategy and initiatives, and led a portfolio of health access and equity products at Nuna Health. Glasha earned her B.A. in International Studies with a focus on Global Health at Macalester College.

  • What do I get from this course?

    This course helps professionals quickly learn key concepts and steps to define and calculate the full Blended Value for their health equity, social needs, or population health programs and investments. In addition to self-paced videos and a real-world case study, students will have access to the Blended Value Toolkit - a collection of Worksheets and Tip Sheets. As students learn key concepts and steps, they can use the Toolkit to gather data and assumptions for their own program or investment. After the course, students can use this Toolkit to enter information into and create financial models for their own programs using HealthBegins’ Blended Value Model for Health Equity, which is offered for purchase separately.

  • What is the course format?

    This self-paced and asynchronous online course includes ten modules with Masterclass-style video lessons, interactive knowledge checks, practical worksheets to help you apply what you learn, and reference tip sheets for ongoing support.

  • How long is the course?

    The duration of the video content is about 1 hour and 30 minutes, across ten modules. However, make sure to reserve some time to complete the worksheets that complement each module. We recommend completing 1-2 modules per week, and blocking off 30-60 minutes per week to complete worksheets.

  • What are my payment options?
